We have previously introduced the Chinese-style mall “Moscow”, but there are also other markets that sell Asian ingredients. This time, we will introduce a place that mainly sells Vietnamese ingredients. As this is a long article, we will split it into two parts.
1. Hanoi-Moscow
A huge shopping mall that mainly sells Vietnamese products
Address: Yaroslavskoe Highway, 146 k1 (Ярославское ш., 146, корп. 1)
15 minutes from VDNKh subway station. There is a free shuttle minibus. You can also take the paid minibus No. 544.
From the Medvedkovo subway station, take minibus No. 270.
It is a 20-minute walk from the Los' train station.
Opening hours: 10:00-22:00
The map shows the route from the VDNKh station.
The bus stop at Vedenha Station is like this. The red mark is the stop for the free shuttle bus, and the blue is the stop for the paid bus. The free bus runs from next to exit 1 of the subway station to the market at the end of the line, and the paid bus runs from in front of the Cosmos Hotel to the market.
(From the “Hanoi-Moscow” website)
To board the free shuttle bus, exit the station from Exit 1 and go up to street level. The free shuttle bus stop is on your immediate right.
The free shuttle bus is marked “Hanoi-Moscow KHANOI-MOSKVA” on the side. There is one every 15 minutes, and it goes straight to the market without stopping along the way.
It takes about 15 minutes to get to the market building. This is the front of the building, but the boarding and alighting area is at the back.
This is where you get on and off the bus. As well as the shopping mall, there are also office buildings and apartments. The entrance to the market is behind where you get off the bus, and the part of the building you see in the photo is the apartment block. There is also a timetable posted.
Click here for the floor map. The ground floor and basement floor are retail stores selling food and goods, and the second floor is the food court.
As soon as you enter, you'll see a large store on the left. This store sells not only Vietnamese products, but also some of the things you'd find in a Russian supermarket.
There are also lots of smaller stores. They sell everything from processed foods like various sauces, rice vinegar, dried noodles, dried shiitake mushrooms, and boiled bamboo shoots, to fresh foods like vegetables and fruit.
There were tropical fruits such as mangoes, dragon fruit and durian, as well as vegetables such as bok choy, bitter melon and garland chrysanthemum, and even pumpkins that you can buy in Japan. I'd never seen Japanese pumpkins for sale in Russia before.
Sometimes you can find Japanese-language packaging too, but I've never seen that in Japan.
In addition to food, they also sell clothes, shoes, medicine, furniture and miscellaneous goods.
The food court on the second floor is very spacious, and there is also a podium for events. The seating arrangement ensures that social distancing is maintained.
I also had a bite to eat. Pho Bo. It costs around 300-350R depending on the shop. There were also lots of different types of spring rolls and salads.
It's valuable that you can get fresh vegetables for Asian cooking. Also, the dried shiitake mushrooms in a bag for 100R and the bamboo shoots in water for 150R were very tempting. It's a bit far to go there often, but it's a good place to stock up on Asian ingredients.
(To be continued)
It seems that Azerbaijan and Armenia have entered a state of war. I've heard about it on the news. I hope it will end soon.
